Swietokrzyskie Innovation System - Information about Municipality of Vidin, Republic of Bulgaria - city interested in INTERREG EUROPE 2014-2020 programme, in particular protecting the environment and promoting resource efficiency.

Municipality of Vidin is situated in the northwestern part of the Republic of Bulgaria and covers an area of 501 thousand sq km (44 ° 13 'N and 22 ° 41' E). The passing through its territory two major trans-European transport routes - Corridor № 4 (Nuremberg - Berlin - Dresden - Prague - Craiova - Calafat - Vidin - Sofia - Kulata - Thessalonica) and Corridor № 7 on the rivers Rhine - Main – Danube, as well as the soon-to be-finished second bridge over the Danube, are important prerequisites for the development of this region. Vidin is the first major Bulgarian port on the River Danube. The geographic characteristic is directly associated with the picturesque location of the municipal center along its right bank. The two peculiar curves in this section of the river abruptly change its direction from north to south, which is an occasion for a local "tease" on the sunrise!

According to the latest census data from 2011 the population of the municipality is 69,691 inhabitants.
